Top Ten Best Books I Read In 2015

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the fab ladies at The Broke and the Bookish!

1. The Truth According to Us by Annie Barrows

I can't stop thinking about this book, six months later.  Absolutely unparalleled for me this year.  I still feel like I crawled into a lost Carson McCullers reading this book.  My review HERE

2. Last Night in Montreal and Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel

Emily St. John Mandel's words are haunting -- I normally do not include books on my list not released the same year of the list but my exception is these two!  My review of Last Night in Montreal HERE.

3. Where All Light Tends to Go by David Joy

I just finished this book late Saturday night/early Sunday morning and I'm so glad I did because I can't imagine it not on this list.  My review will be posted this Thursday but the voice in this book -- absolutely astonishing!

4. The Deal (Off-Campus #1) by Elle Kennedy

Please do not let this cover fool you!  This is such a good book-- so steamy, funny, and tender.  Definitely the best NA I've read in a long time!!  My review HERE.

5. Vision in Silver (The Others #3) by Anne Bishop

I cannot thank Rachel (of Waves of Fiction and The Reader's Den) enough for recommending this series to me when I was looking for a new series with subtle, hard-fought love.  The next book in the series is my most anticipated read for 2016, after The Raven King and F*$K Love.

6. First Impressions: Or, A Cautionary Tale of Pride and Prejudice by Charlie Lovett

As a HUGE Jane Austen fan, I've read every iteration of retelling imaginable but this was something different --  it imagines an entirely different Jane Austen (with some truth) and an entirely new (with some truth) version of the way in which she wrote some of her most famous novels.  I loved it!!  My review HERE.

7. Steering the Stars by Erica Cope and Autumn Doughton

My only YA on the list this year!  Since I've been blogging, I've created both top 10 adult list and a YA list every year.  However, this year I didn't read enough books that were of the quality to create two lists even though so far I've read 215 books in 2015.  Steering the Stars is the YA exception -- so good!!

8. Swerve by Vicki Pettersson

This book was so spooky and it had SUCH a good twist but my favorite thing about it was the setting -- so perfect! My review HERE.

9. The Rabbit Back Literature Society by Pasi Ilmari Jääskeläinen, Translated by Lola M Rogers

She'd read more than was healthy, hundreds of books every year. Some of them she read twice, or even three times, before returning them. Some of them she would check out again after letting them sink in a while. She'd thought at the time that books were at their best when you'd read them two or three times.
My review HERE.

10. Marrow by Tarryn Fisher

You guys didn't honestly think that I could have a top ten books of the year list without Tarryn Fisher, right?  While Marrow is my least favorite of hers (not counting the abomination that is Never, Never), her words just speak to me.  I still don't know what to think of this one but I loved getting lost in the language and the story and Margo.

  24. This is sad but I've only read The Deal and I adored it! It made me want to read all of her books, which I did. I want to read the Anne Bishop series as well, but I'm waiting for a few more books to be out. It sounds like one that I would love though.

  29. Yay for The Others!! Thanks for the shout out, Eva! I'm so thrilled when someone shares my love for a series so I'm so happy you enjoyed it. I CAN'T wait for the next book. I put in a request for it on Netgalley but I haven't heard back from them *sobs*. Oh well, March isn't that far off and I know I'll get the audio and the e-Copy.

I haven't heard of quite a few on your list, so I'm going to spend some time checking them out. Swerve has a delightfully creepy cover, and I do enjoy a good twist!

I have to say I'm a little gun shy with Tarryn Fisher after Mud Vein. I know I shouldn't hold one book against an author, but I tend to drop authors like that. I had the same issue with CoHo. LOVED her until Maybe Someday and now I'm so afraid to read anything else of hers. I'm going to try Maybe Not, her novella and see if I can wade in again with her.

    Fabulous post, Eva! :)

  30. I have to confess I haven't read a single one of these! I, er, should probably change that!

  31. What a great and diverse list! I'll have to check some of these out.

  32. I've heard such great things about Station Eleven. The Deal is one that I'll be reading *soon.* I see everyone raving about it and I'm a sucker for good new adult. I've yet to read anything by Tarryn Fisher. I feel like her writing might be too "out there" for me but I really have nothing to base that on (ha!) so I should probably give her a try. I enjoyed seeing your top picks!

I love this trope, sub-genre, setting: My Best Friend's Brother/My Brother's Best Friend

I Love This Trope, Sub-Genre, Setting is a new feature on my blog in which I discuss a trope, sub-genre or setting that I love and tell you about books that are shining examples of said trope, sub-genre or setting.  Feel free to play along and please let me know about your favorite books in this realm and whether you like this trope, sub-genre and/or setting as much as I do! Today I am spotlighting the trope of:  My Best Friend's Brother/My Brother's Best Friend , which I would define as any book where the heroine either has a crush on or falls for her brother's best friend or her best friend's brother. I have to confess that I love this trope in nearly all of its iterations!  I have a younger brother so I never got to crush on any of his friends but it's fun reading about that and it's equally as fun as reading about falling for your best friend's brother -- instant sisters!  I know there are a ton

Conversations With Myself (& Hopefully You): ARC Greed

This discussion is inspired by my feelings lately when reading and reviewing ARCs versus the feelings I had when I requested those same ARCs: ARC GREED ARC greed -- have we all experienced this?  What I even mean by this term is that I sometimes feel overwhelmed when looking at Netgalley and Edelweiss and  I sometimes over-request, if only because I can!  I get greedy when I see all the new and shiny ARCs available and I will sometimes request things that have even a hint of interest for me, not necessarily focusing only on those books that I really, really want.  The problem with this over-requesting and with getting greedy with requesting (and receiving) ARCs is when it comes time to read and review these ARCs.  Last month and this month, I have looked at my ARCs with a release date in each respective month and I just haven't wanted to read any of them.  I need to start asking myself -- If I was immediately approved for this ARC, would I read it right thi
