Review: Midnight Marked (Chicagoland Vampires #12) by Chloe Neill

Blurb from Goodreads:
As the Chicagoland Vampires series continues, Merit and Ethan find themselves in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse, where winning may require the ultimate sacrifice...

A vampire’s grudges don’t stay dead long...

Merit is one of Chicago's most skilled vampire warriors; these days, she doesn't scare easily. But she and Master vampire Ethan have made a new and powerful enemy, and he won't give up until he owns the Windy City.

With his last plan thwarted, he's more determined than ever to watch Cadogan burn. Ethan has put the House's vampires on high alert, but their enemy will stop at nothing, including pitting vampire against vampire...

In this deadly game of cat-and-mouse, the stakes are life or death—and winning might mean sacrificing everything....
My Review:
I can't believe that there is only one book left.  I will say that around books 8-9, I was a bit ready to give up on this series.  Nereyda convinced me to keep going and I'm so glad I did because books 10, 11 and 12 (this one) have reminded me why I love this series.  I can remember reading book #1 in this series for the first time and I. Could. Not. Put. It. Down.  It was agony to wait a year for the next book to come out.  It's crazy to think that this entire series really takes place over only the span of one year because so much happens.  Merit has grown so much and the world for supernaturals, especially in Chicago, has changed so much.  All of that being said, Midnight Marked does not disappoint -- Merit is as kick-ass as ever, MEthan is better than ever, Mallory has come into her own as a sorceress and there is plenty of suspense, intrigue, fighting and other supes in the mix.  Regarding the ending, I will just say: !!!!!!!!!!!

Midnight Marked came out earlier this month on March 1, 2016, you can purchase HERE, and I just love this series!  I will be very sad when it's over but I am still after that MEthan HEA!
"I love you, Ethan, and I love this city.  And however much I fought, I love this goddamn House.  It's part of me, and I'm part of it.  I'm not going to stand here and watch a man tear down everything that you've build.  I'm not.  And if that means I have to chase another man who threatens this House, or apologize to you more than I like, so be it.  I don't want that, but I can live with it.  Because I can't live without you."

  1. I have a feeling if I don't get caught upon this series soon, Nereyda will disown me. Haha! I'm so glad you continued with this series, Eva and that it got better for you. I love Merit and I think it's time for me to become reacquainted with her and Ethan. :)
    Lovely review!

  2. This is just one series that I can't seem to find the time to start. I know my library has all the books that are out, but I just never get the urge to start. I may have to wait until the series finishes. Great review!

  4. Aw, that quote! I freaking love Methan so much! I love their journey and I'm so glad you kept reading this series because you are the only other friend I have who reads these books :)
I love that by now, Chloe Neill has a good rythym with her story and Methan. There is conflict but not anything too drastic anymore and I love that she proves that Merit and Ethan can be a couple and not have to fight a lot or become boring. The ending, finally! I may have fist pumped while I was listening to that part.
I am scared that someone will die in the final book. Like on of our favorite secondary characters and I'm scared!
BTW- I read that quote in the narrators voice from the audiobooks. I've heard like 6 of them on audio so I have her voice memorized :)

    1. That is awesome re: the narrator! When I re-read these, I may have to listen to the audio!

And yes that quote is super swoony!

Totally agree re: MEthan and their evolution -- I never get sick of them and we definitely have to buddy read the last book! I'm nervous/excited!!

  6. I'm really interested in getting into more UF books but I really don't want to start series with a bunch of books. I might start this one but I'm a little nervous. Some series tend to get overdrawn.

  7. Wow, a 13 book series is quite a commitment. I've read very little UF but I hear such phenomenal things about this series.

I love this trope, sub-genre, setting: My Best Friend's Brother/My Brother's Best Friend

I Love This Trope, Sub-Genre, Setting is a new feature on my blog in which I discuss a trope, sub-genre or setting that I love and tell you about books that are shining examples of said trope, sub-genre or setting.  Feel free to play along and please let me know about your favorite books in this realm and whether you like this trope, sub-genre and/or setting as much as I do! Today I am spotlighting the trope of:  My Best Friend's Brother/My Brother's Best Friend , which I would define as any book where the heroine either has a crush on or falls for her brother's best friend or her best friend's brother. I have to confess that I love this trope in nearly all of its iterations!  I have a younger brother so I never got to crush on any of his friends but it's fun reading about that and it's equally as fun as reading about falling for your best friend's brother -- instant sisters!  I know there are a ton

Conversations With Myself (& Hopefully You): ARC Greed

This discussion is inspired by my feelings lately when reading and reviewing ARCs versus the feelings I had when I requested those same ARCs: ARC GREED ARC greed -- have we all experienced this?  What I even mean by this term is that I sometimes feel overwhelmed when looking at Netgalley and Edelweiss and  I sometimes over-request, if only because I can!  I get greedy when I see all the new and shiny ARCs available and I will sometimes request things that have even a hint of interest for me, not necessarily focusing only on those books that I really, really want.  The problem with this over-requesting and with getting greedy with requesting (and receiving) ARCs is when it comes time to read and review these ARCs.  Last month and this month, I have looked at my ARCs with a release date in each respective month and I just haven't wanted to read any of them.  I need to start asking myself -- If I was immediately approved for this ARC, would I read it right thi
