Review: Nemesis (FBI Thriller #19) by Catherine Coulter

Blurb from Goodreads:
The next high-octane thriller in the FBI series featuring Dillon Savich and Lacey Sherlock from # 1 New York Times–bestselling author Catherine Coulter.

When Special Agent Lacey Sherlock foils a terrorist attack at JFK airport, she thinks her job is done and turns the reins over to the New York FBI. But stopping the grenade-carrying crazy was only the beginning. Another plot unfolds nearly simultaneously with a bomb at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. The terrorist at JFK refuses to speak to anyone but Sherlock. She heads back with counterterrorist Special Agent Cal McLain to try to get him to talk.

Meanwhile, Savich—with the help of Agent Griffin Hammersmith—has his hands full trying to track an elusive murderer who looks like a Hollywood Dracula. When Dracula’s attempts to kill Savich collide with Sherlock’s terrorist case, very strange things happen.

Who is really behind the bombing attack at St. Patrick’s? How does Savich’s mysterious killer fit into Sherlock’s terrorism investigation? Savich and Sherlock race against the clock, as more lives are in danger with every passing minute.
My Review:

The FBI Thriller series has been one of my favorites for over ten years; I have anxiously awaited each new book every summer and typically devour them as fast I have them in my hands.  Book #18, Power Play, was definitely my least favorite in the series to date but I wrote it off as a fluke since the other 17 books were all 4 or 5 star reads for me.  But now I am worried -- not only has the romance completely vanished from the series but the true stars of the series -- Savich and Sherlock (read book 2, The Maze!) -- felt totally staid and boring in this book.  It was a struggle to read this one -- the thriller and mystery aspects were overtaken by completely divergent plots of terrorism and witchcraft, neither of which was executed well.  I can't give up on this series yet (almost -- I will give it one more book) but I also would say read the beginning of the series not necessarily the latest books if  you want some awesome romantic suspense!

I would recommend this to anyone that likes law enforcement thrillers, and must note that this particular book in the series had zero romance (which may be a good thing for some!).  I can't recommend the first books in the series -- truly books 1-14-- highly enough, however, if you love romantic suspense.  Nemesis was released earlier this week, and you can purchase HERE!

  1. First time hearing about this series. I have to admit there was a point in life that I loved crime books. Now, I'm trying to get back again so I've been requesting a few books. Let's see if I can jump on that wagon again :) Great review!

  2. Bummer, Eva. It's unfortunate the series went downhill for you. I'm always looking for a new romantic suspense series to get into, so I'll definitely check out the earlier books. I'm wondering if the same two characters are featured in each book? Great honest review! :)

I love this trope, sub-genre, setting: My Best Friend's Brother/My Brother's Best Friend

I Love This Trope, Sub-Genre, Setting is a new feature on my blog in which I discuss a trope, sub-genre or setting that I love and tell you about books that are shining examples of said trope, sub-genre or setting.  Feel free to play along and please let me know about your favorite books in this realm and whether you like this trope, sub-genre and/or setting as much as I do! Today I am spotlighting the trope of:  My Best Friend's Brother/My Brother's Best Friend , which I would define as any book where the heroine either has a crush on or falls for her brother's best friend or her best friend's brother. I have to confess that I love this trope in nearly all of its iterations!  I have a younger brother so I never got to crush on any of his friends but it's fun reading about that and it's equally as fun as reading about falling for your best friend's brother -- instant sisters!  I know there are a ton

Conversations With Myself (& Hopefully You): ARC Greed

This discussion is inspired by my feelings lately when reading and reviewing ARCs versus the feelings I had when I requested those same ARCs: ARC GREED ARC greed -- have we all experienced this?  What I even mean by this term is that I sometimes feel overwhelmed when looking at Netgalley and Edelweiss and  I sometimes over-request, if only because I can!  I get greedy when I see all the new and shiny ARCs available and I will sometimes request things that have even a hint of interest for me, not necessarily focusing only on those books that I really, really want.  The problem with this over-requesting and with getting greedy with requesting (and receiving) ARCs is when it comes time to read and review these ARCs.  Last month and this month, I have looked at my ARCs with a release date in each respective month and I just haven't wanted to read any of them.  I need to start asking myself -- If I was immediately approved for this ARC, would I read it right thi
