Review: When the Truth Unravels by RuthAnne Snow

Blurb from Goodreads:
Last month, Elin tried to kill herself.

She knows she’s lucky that her parents found her in time. Lucky to be going to prom with her three best friends, like any other teen. Like it never happened. And if she has anything to say about it, no one but her best friends will ever know it did.

Jenna, Rosie, and Ket will do anything to keep Elin’s secret—and to make sure it never happens again. That’s why they’re determined to make prom the perfect night. The night that convinces Elin that life is worth living.

Except, at prom, Elin goes missing.

Now it’s up to her friends to find her. But each of the girls has her own demons to face. Ket is being blackmailed by an ex. Rosie is falling in love for the first time. And Jenna . . .

Jenna is falling apart.

And no one, not even her best friends, knows why.

Heart-wrenching and utterly impossible to put down, When the Truth Unravels follows four friends as they confront their greatest hopes and darkest secrets during one life-changing night.
My Review:

If you are hoping for a big mystery with this one, there isn't one but I think that made the book more realistic and more compelling.  This felt very Can't Hardly Wait, albeit a bit more serious, with one prom night to right all wrongs and for everyone's wishes to come true.  It was a fast read, which I appreciated but it didn't feel particularly unique.  Still, the writing wasn't terrible and I think the fact that it was told from multiple POV was well done.

When the Truth Unravels came out today on January 8, 2019 and you can purchase HERE.
Even before the suicide thing, Mom Kim gave me and my friends serious side-eye. She read a lot of Jodi Picoult--you know, those books where teenage girls are always getting themselves into some situation that's half Lifetime Original and second-cousin to a very special episode of Law and Order: SVU?

Review: The Lost Letters from Martha's Vineyard by Michael Callahan

The Lost Letters from Martha's Vineyard by Michael Callahan Blurb from Goodreads : A tantalizing novel of two women bound by blood but divided by a long-buried secret, and the island that holds the key to the fateful summer that changed everything forever. In 1959, Hollywood ingenue Mercy Welles seems to have the world at her feet. Far removed from her Nebraska roots, she has crafted herself into a glamorous Oscar-nominated actress engaged to an up-and-coming director… Until she shockingly vanishes without a trace, just as her career is taking off. Almost sixty years later, Kit O’Neill, a junior television producer in Manhattan, is packing up her recently deceased grandmother’s attic, only to discover a long-lost box of souvenirs that reveal that the grandmother who raised her and her sister Claire was, in fact, the mysterious Mercy Welles. Put...
