I love this trope, sub-genre, setting: Political Romance!

I Love This Trope, Sub-Genre, Setting is a new feature on my blog in which I discuss a trope, sub-genre or setting that I love and tell you about books that are shining examples of said trope, sub-genre or setting.  Feel free to play along and please let me know about your favorite books in this realm and whether you like this trope, sub-genre and/or setting as much as I do!
Today I am spotlighting the sub-genre of: Political Romance, which I would define as romance in which one (or both!) of the love interests is a politician, works for a politician or is involved in politics in some manner!

Maybe it's just me but I LOVE politics!  This sub-genre of political romance is a fun twist on the typical billionaire/movie star/sports star/rock star sub-genre. I have read and loved all of the books above and there is some variety in them -- some are also military romance or romantic suspense, some are NA, some are YA.  Obviously, Mary Whitney is the queen of this sub-genre, IMO!  All of her books are five star reads for me that I also re-read all the time.  I am on the hunt now for a historical political romance -- have you heard of such a thing?!

Have you ever read political romance?  Does it sound interesting to you?  Ask me any questions below or recommend to me your favorite political romance!

  1. You know I don't think I have read anything from the sub-genre!! And I can totally get into politics. I will have to check some of these out!!! Thanks for sharing!!

  2. I like to read stories within this sub-genre as well! Mary Whitney is definitely a good choice :)
And historical political romance? Politics does not play the main role but are very important part of Outlander series which has the most epic romance ever in my opinion. I recommend wholeheartedly :)

  3. Why thank you my dear for these recs! I am definitely checking out Mary Whitney's! I think these would be a lot of fun! And I'm with Grace... I'm not sure I've read any political romances, so I would like to!

  5. I've never read a political romance, but you're making me want to! I must say, the covers don't look totally appealing. I'm not a huge fan of politics either (I only follow UK politics as it is), so if Iwas to read one, it would have to be by a British author!

Thank you for sharing this genre with me! I'll have to check out some of these recommendations soon ☺

  6. I'm not a fan of politics at all but actually love to read books with the politics as a backdrop. I never really thought about it as a sub-genre or trope, so that's a new take on it for me. I love this list and am familiar with a lot of these books but had no idea that politics was involved in some of them.

  7. Love, love, love this new feature, Eva! Such a great idea and I'm already interested to see what trope/sub-genre is featured next. The political sub-genre is not one I really go for. In fact, I'd go as far as saying it's one I shy away from. If I see that the book is based in the political world or the MC's are in politics... meh. Not even sure why, but it's one of those genres that just doesn't hold a lot of interest for me (not in fiction, anyway).

  8. I definitely have to be in the mood for this kind of genre. I have never heard of historical political romance, but I am sure it out there. Great post!

  9. Even though I'm a huge fan of romance, I have never read a political romance! I'm not sure why other than I've never come across any.
I'm bookmarking this for the next time I go book shopping! And historical political romance. Man that sounds interesting. Let me know if you find any! I don't know if it would qualify but Anne Blankman's Prisoner of Night & Fog duology is set in the era of Hitler and even though it's YA, the political aspects were fascinating and the romance swoony.
    Fun post, Eva! :)

  11. I love politics too, how did I not know this sub-genre existed?! I don't think I've ever read a fictional book with a theme of romance AND politics-seriously getting giddy over here now lol.

  12. Fun post! Have you read The Kept Woman by Susan Donovan? This guy running for mayor (I believe) who is a playboy hires this girl and her kids to pose as his fiance to clean up his image. Loooooove that book!

  13. Someone had saved this post on Bloglovin' and I came in because it caught my eye and I have a kinda love for romance and politics too. Loved the Fatal books by Marie Force and Suze Brockmann. Agree with Nereyda - The Kept Woman was a total fun read. Saving your post to explore your other recs.

I love this trope, sub-genre, setting: My Best Friend's Brother/My Brother's Best Friend

Today I am spotlighting the trope of:  My Best Friend's Brother/My Brother's Best Friend , which I would define as any book where the heroine either has a crush on or falls for her brother's best friend or her best friend's brother. I have to confess that I love this trope in nearly all of its iterations!  I have a younger brother so I never got to crush on any of his friends but it's fun reading about that and it's equally as fun as reading about falling for your best friend's brother -- instant sisters!  I know there are a ton

Conversations With Myself (& Hopefully You): ARC Greed

This discussion is inspired by my feelings lately when reading and reviewing ARCs versus the feelings I had when I requested those same ARCs: ARC GREED ARC greed -- have we all experienced this?  What I even mean by this term is that I sometimes feel overwhelmed when looking at Netgalley and Edelweiss and  I sometimes over-request, if only because I can!  I get greedy when I see all the new and shiny ARCs available and I will sometimes request things that have even a hint of interest for me, not necessarily focusing only on those books that I really, really want.  The problem with this over-requesting and with getting greedy with requesting (and receiving) ARCs is when it comes time to read and review these ARCs.  Last month and this month, I have looked at my ARCs with a release date in each respective month and I just haven't wanted to read any of them.  I need to start asking myself -- If I was immediately approved for this ARC, would I read it right thi
