Review: Back to You by Priscilla Glenn

Back to You by Priscilla Glenn

Blurb from Goodreads:

When Lauren Monroe first laid eyes on Michael Delaney back in high school, she had every reason to stay away from him; within minutes of their first encounter, his volatile actions confirmed his notorious reputation. But Lauren saw something in him that caused her to question his bad-boy persona, and against her better judgment, she took a chance. She had no way of knowing that the unlikely friendship they formed would become so important to her. Or that it would end so painfully. Eight years later, when Lauren begins her new job at Learn and Grow Day Care, Michael is the last person she expects to see. Refusing to revisit the hurt and confusion of their past, Lauren vows to keep her distance from him. But staying away from Michael proves to be more difficult than she thought, despite her lingering grief and her instincts for self-preservation. As Lauren and Michael recall the friendship that changed them forever and the events that tore them apart, will they finally be able to heal? Or will the ghosts of Michael’s past prove to be too much to overcome?

My Review:

Wow! This book was a breath of fresh air for me - maybe because the relationship between Michael and Lauren is so unique or maybe just because of the way it was written. I absolutely loved how the chapters alternated between the present and the past, such a slow build-up and anticipation in weaving such a wonderful story: the story of Michael and Lauren. Although I hate love triangles, the triangle here did not bother me at all probably because Lauren was completely honest with herself in dropping Adam when she realized her heart was not in it.

My only qualm is the ending. After such a slow and perfect build-up of the story, the ending felt rushed. Although I loved how it turned out and the epilogue melted my heart, it seemed so rushed. One moment Lauren is agonizing over Michael's betrayal and the next second she forgives him. It didn't seem plausible to me, even if she had always loved him. I just wish there were a few more chapters of explanation. Overall, however, I really loved reading this book and I love the story of Michael and Lauren.

Top 10 Adult (and some NA) of 2012

1. The Opportunist (Love Me With Lies #1) by Tarryn Fisher
My favorite adult book of 2012. I thought about it for weeks after I read it! The ending seriously almost killed me. This is only the second book that I cried during reading. I just bought the "sequel," Dirty Red, and can't wait to read it (it will be agonizing, I know!).

2. Devoured (Devoured #1) by Emily Snow
To me, this is everything I hoped 50 Shades would be but with an actual plot and likable characters. Lucas is definitely my number one book boyfriend. I am absolutely on pins and needles for the next book. Full review here

3. Easy by Tammara Webber
There's a reason this book is on almost everyone's top 10 list this year - it is that good. This was probably the book that I could not put down more than any other book I read this year. I loved Jacqueline and Lucas together from their first encounter and all of the hard things that came after. A beautiful stand-alone that I am going to re-read soon.

4. Slammed and Point of Retreat by Colleen Hoover
These are the kind of books that check if your heart is still beating. An impossible situation, the kind that tears your heart out and then gets worse, coupled with an undeniable, fated love. Every word of these books is beautiful. Plus, Colleen managed the rare feat of the sequel being just as good, if not better, than the first book. I just bought Colleen's latest adult book, Hopeless, and I am so excited to read it!

5. Biting Cold (Chicagoland Vampires #6) by Chloe Neill
Just when I think this series can't get any better, each book is better than the last! Ethan and Merit forever, please. Anxiously awaiting House Rules.

6. A Political Affair by Mary Whitney
I am a total political junkie so this book was right up my alley although it was also so good!! Also one of my favorite covers of this year. Full review here

7. Lengths by Steph Campbell and Liz Reinhardt
All of you already know my love for Liz Reinhardt and this steamy NA novel written with Steph Campbell is definitely no exception!! The cover is also my favorite adult cover of the year. Full review here

8. On the Island by Tracey Garvis-Graves
This is a book where the premise initially tripped me up because of the teacher/student nature of the relationship and the vast age difference. However, once I read it, I felt like the entire story was perfect. Best summer read!

9. Charade (Games #1) by Nyrae Dawn
This book was hard to read at times because it was so sad although I loved the characters so much. I won't give any spoilers away, but something happened toward the end of the book that I almost couldn't read because it was so unfair but the ending was 110% amazing. I am really looking forward to reading all of Nyrae's books this year.

10. That Boy by Jillian Dodd
Even though this book came out last year, I didn't read it until this year along with its sequel, That Wedding. JJ frustrated me beyond belief at times but Jillian Dodd is so good at writing descriptive scenes. Every book of hers that I read, I am instantly transported and can envision the entire book. Love her!!
Happy New Year!

Cover Reveal: PERFECTLY UNMATCHED by Liz Reinhardt

Today, I am pleased to help reveal the cover for Perfectly Unmatched by Liz Reinhardt! Liz is one of my favorite authors and the Brenna Blixen series is by far my favorite YA series out there! I am so excited about this book. Without further adieu:

Benelli Youngblood is dedicated to her family. Unlike her unpredictable, selfish siblings, Benelli plans to do what's expected of her: get married to a good, stable man who will help her father save his floundering business. And she's sure her current boyfriend is that man.

When she catches said boyfriend sleeping with his secretary, she hops the first plane to her family's summer house in Hungary armed with a list of eligible men from solid families to go on dates with so she can find the perfect marriage partner. It may sound old-fashioned, but it's what's always worked for her family, and it's how she'll mend her shattered heart.

What she doesn't plan on is falling for Cormac Halstrom. The witty, sexy professor with no interest in business or marriage couldn't be further from the right choice for her. But his hot kisses and sweet words make her feel something she hasn't in years; she finally feels like herself.

When things go too far with Cormac and her family shows up unexpectedly, Benelli will have to decide if she's going to listen to her heart or her head when it comes to finding her perfect match.

PERFECTLY UNMATCHED is a new adult novel that contains mature language, sexuality, and adult situations.
PERFECTLY UNMATCHED will be released December 20, 2012! I can't wait! I love the cover, but what do you think??
