Blog Tour, Giveaway, and Review: The Paper Swan by Leylah Attar

I'm so excited to be on the blog tour and reviewing The Paper Swan by Leylah Attar.  I loved this book and I am a HUGE fan of this author!  ENTER TO WIN A SIGNED BOOK AND AMAZON GIFTCARD BELOW!!!!!!

Blurb from Leylah:
They say it takes 21 days to form a habit.
They lie.
For 21 days she held on.
But on Day 22, she would have given anything for the sweet slumber of death.
Because on Day 22, she realizes that her only way out means certain death for one of the two men she loves.

A haunting tale of passion, loss, and redemption, The Paper Swan is a darkly intense yet heartwarming love story, textured with grit, intrigue, and suspense. Please note: This is NOT a love triangle.

A full-length, standalone novel, intended for mature audiences due to violence, sex and language. Subject matter may be disturbing for some readers.
My Review:

It's hard to even know where to being in reviewing this book but the blurb is perfect in that it doesn't really tell you anything and I had no idea what to expect when I started reading! But I also don't want to give anything away.  The author is accurate in that this is not a love triangle (YES!) but also that this is not what you think!  What is great is the story and the voice -- I loved the MC and her internal dialogue.  I also loved the flashbacks in the book to the past -- it felt like I was there.  Leylah Attar is so skilled with her descriptions and she really knows how to show and not tell.  Her writing in this book (and in the others I've read by her) is so, so beautiful.  I devoured this book SO quickly and I highly recommend it for a satisfying, fast-paced and gorgeous read!  I will say that the first half of the book was SO good that the ending left me feeling a bit let down but only because there was so much action at the beginning.

I HIGHLY recommend this book to fans of Tarryn Fisher (my favorite!), The Consequences Series by Aleatha Romig, or The Artists Trilogy by Karina Halle.  I think that same level of darkness and WTFness exists in all these books with moments of tenderness.  I was a huge fan of this author's debut and I am now even more excited to read what she writes next!
It was a kiss that had sneaked in through an open window, a kiss that lay folded in a paper giraffe, in the silences between 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, in the pits of the mini mangoes and here, now, at least, it was set free.  And the rightness of it, the feeling of longing and belonging, made me want to hold on to it forever.  I wanted Damian to keep kissing me, keep kissing, keep kissing, until every other kiss had been erased, until this was the only kiss.

About Leylah Attar
Leylah Attar writes stories about love - shaken, stirred and served with a twist. When she's not writing, she can be found pursuing her other passions: photography, food, family and travel. Sometimes she disappears into the black hole of the internet, but can usually be enticed out with chocolate.

I love this trope, sub-genre, setting: My Best Friend's Brother/My Brother's Best Friend

I Love This Trope, Sub-Genre, Setting is a new feature on my blog in which I discuss a trope, sub-genre or setting that I love and tell you about books that are shining examples of said trope, sub-genre or setting.  Feel free to play along and please let me know about your favorite books in this realm and whether you like this trope, sub-genre and/or setting as much as I do! Today I am spotlighting the trope of:  My Best Friend's Brother/My Brother's Best Friend , which I would define as any book where the heroine either has a crush on or falls for her brother's best friend or her best friend's brother. I have to confess that I love this trope in nearly all of its iterations!  I have a younger brother so I never got to crush on any of his friends but it's fun reading about that and it's equally as fun as reading about falling for your best friend's brother -- instant sisters!  I know there are a ton

Conversations With Myself (& Hopefully You): ARC Greed

This discussion is inspired by my feelings lately when reading and reviewing ARCs versus the feelings I had when I requested those same ARCs: ARC GREED ARC greed -- have we all experienced this?  What I even mean by this term is that I sometimes feel overwhelmed when looking at Netgalley and Edelweiss and  I sometimes over-request, if only because I can!  I get greedy when I see all the new and shiny ARCs available and I will sometimes request things that have even a hint of interest for me, not necessarily focusing only on those books that I really, really want.  The problem with this over-requesting and with getting greedy with requesting (and receiving) ARCs is when it comes time to read and review these ARCs.  Last month and this month, I have looked at my ARCs with a release date in each respective month and I just haven't wanted to read any of them.  I need to start asking myself -- If I was immediately approved for this ARC, would I read it right thi
