Review: The Unquiet Bones by Loreth Anne White

Blurb from Goodreads:
A shocking discovery of human bones reopens an almost fifty-year-old cold case—and rips apart the lives of a group of friends.

When human bones are found beneath an old chapel in the woods, evidence suggests the remains could be linked to the decades-old case of missing teen Annalise Jansen. Homicide detective Jane Munro—pregnant and acutely attuned to the preciousness of life—hopes the grim discovery will finally bring closure to the girl’s family.

But for a group of Annalise’s old friends, once dubbed the Shoreview Six by the media, it threatens to expose a terrible pledge made on an autumn night forty-seven years ago. The friends are now highly respected, affluent members of their communities, and none of them ever expected the dark chapter in their past to resurface. But as Jane and forensic anthropologist Dr. Ella Quinn peel back the layers of secrets, the group begins to fracture. Will one cave? Will they turn on each other?

The investigation takes a sharp turn when Jane discovers a second body—that of the boy long blamed for Annalise’s disappearance. As the bones tell their story, the group learns just how far each will go to guard their own truth.

Loreth Anne White does not disappoint and I really enjoyed her latest.  This book is very procedural and has lots of characters and points of view, all of which were written superbly.  I kind of figured out the killer but there were a lot of intricacies that occurred in getting there and a few things surprised me. This author is a true master of crime fiction -- give this one a read!

The Unquiet Bones comes out next week on March 5, 2024 and you can purchase HERE.

"Whoa! Whoa. Stop!" he screams, shooting his hand into the air and making a slicing motion across his neck.
Raphael halts the excavator arm. He hops down from the cab and runs over to where Benjamin has crouched. Benjamin carefully brushes damp soil off the long object that has been pulled up in the dirt. His heart hammers. He glances at Raphael.
They have hooked two big, long bones.
Benjamin knows they are not from a large animal because the thing hanging off the end of them is a boot.
A woman's boot with a platform heel.

I love this trope, sub-genre, setting: My Best Friend's Brother/My Brother's Best Friend

I Love This Trope, Sub-Genre, Setting is a new feature on my blog in which I discuss a trope, sub-genre or setting that I love and tell you about books that are shining examples of said trope, sub-genre or setting.  Feel free to play along and please let me know about your favorite books in this realm and whether you like this trope, sub-genre and/or setting as much as I do! Today I am spotlighting the trope of:  My Best Friend's Brother/My Brother's Best Friend , which I would define as any book where the heroine either has a crush on or falls for her brother's best friend or her best friend's brother. I have to confess that I love this trope in nearly all of its iterations!  I have a younger brother so I never got to crush on any of his friends but it's fun reading about that and it's equally as fun as reading about falling for your best friend's brother -- instant sisters!  I know there are a ton
